How I settle your baby during their newborn shoot
As much as I’d like to say I am some kind of baby settling wizard (some parents even call me one!) I actually have a list of go-to tricks I turn to during your newborn shoot to keep your baby calm, happy and sleepy.
Shoot date - Whenever it's possible, I book newborn shoots when babies are 7-10 days old. After this time, some newborns become a little more alert and wake easier as I gently position them. If you miss this time slot though, don't worry - I offer shoots to babies of all ages.
A full tummy - We take as many breaks to feed that your baby needs. Sometimes that's after 2 hours, sometimes that's after 30 minutes. We go at their speed.
Keeping them warm - I keep my studio very warm to make sure they're nice and toasty while undressed.
White noise - I use white noise or a shhhing noise to help keep them calm. Top tip - there's an 8 hour Henry Hoover sound YouTube video, which is perfect for when you're out and about.
Keeping them comfy - Not all babies like to lay in certain positions and that's fine! If you're little one hates being one their front - they don't go on their front. It's the same with any pose. They're the boss!
Cuddles - Don't underestimate the power of a nice cuddle. Some babies can smell their mum's milk so settle better with me, others love laying on dad's chest, others only mum will do.
