How to choose a Newborn Photographer in Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes has a lot of many things and that includes amazing photographers.

So how do you choose the right one for your newborn photo shoot?

Here’s a few things to help you decide:

  1. Do you want a Studio or Lifestyle Newborn Photo Shoot?

A studio photo shoot generally takes place in a professional photography studio. This style is the more sleepy, curled up newborn photos of your new arrival curled up and cosy on various blankets or in props.
Lifestyle newborn photo shoots take place around your home. These might include cuddles on the sofa or on your bed and your newborn laying in their cot.

Some professional newborn studios are based in commercial buildings such as shops where as others are inside someone’s home.
I have two dedicated rooms in my home, which are my studio. I love welcoming people into my home knowing I have all the home comforts here if needed. Need to boil the kettle to warm a bottle? I’ve got you. Need extra towels, a glass of water etc - just ask.

2. Are they in a good location?

We all know that everything in Milton Keynes is about 15 minutes away at most but if driving and easy parking are important to you, take a look on a map or reach out to them and ask where they’re located.

3. Find a style you love

Newborn photography comes in all different shapes and sizes. Some photographers love colour, fancy props, intricate set ups and others, like me, have a simpler, neutral style with little bits of colour and just a few props. It’s worth looking around a few websites and on Facebook & Instagram to find someone with a style you love.

4. Have they been doing newborn photography for long? Are they trained?

Safety is the number one priority when it comes to newborn photography. Although there is no specific qualification to become a newborn photographer, any professional will have undergone training with industry leaders to not only make sure you receive beautiful images, but that your newborn is safe throughout.
Personally, I have specialised in newborn photography for ten years and have been trained by one of the country’s top newborn photographers. I have also completed a Red Cross Baby & Child First Aid course.

5. How would you like to take home your photos?

Are you looking for someone who provides you with a USB of your images or would you prefer someone who sells albums, frames and canvases? A lot of photographers offer a mixture of them all but it’s worth having a look at their pricing and packages to make sure there’s something that suits you.
Similarly, some photographers do online galleries where you view your images in your own time at home and other’s offer in person appointments where you go back to the studio and choose your images with the photographer.

6. Budget

The cost of newborn photography can vary greatly between photographers. Although finding a cheap photographer may sound appealing, it’s important to remember that you’re looking for someone with the experience, training and equipment to keep your baby safe and take photos you will treasure.
Running a professional photography business comes with a lot of expenses and they will be reflected in the price when choosing someone with experience.

If you find a photographer you love but they’re out of budget they may offer Mini Newborn Photo Shoots, which are a shorter, simpler version of a full newborn shoot. They can differ from full newborn shoots a little (sometimes they don’t include family photos or are just photos with the baby wrapped) so it’s worth taking a look on their website or reaching out to them to see what they have available.
