Every April the bluebells appear and we are treated to sheets of beautiful purple flowers just begging to be photographed.  But what's the best thing for you and/or your children to wear?

Here are a few tips to help you pick out the perfect outfits.

It can be colder then you think

Bluebells generally flower in wooded areas, which get a lot of shade.  However warm the day may be, it can feel a lot chillier under the tree cover so consider planning an outfit with long sleeves or at least a cardigan or jacket that you wouldn't mind being worn in the photos. 

April Showers = April Mud

As well as Bluebells, April also brings showers so expect mud!  Some locations aren't too bad but if you're visiting somewhere remote or that gets a lot of visitors, it can get messy.

If you'd rather not have photos in wellies, wear them on the day and take nicer shoes to change in to.  It can also be lovely for children to have bare feet. 

You'll be sitting on logs and on blankets on the ground so it's unlikely you'll be able to avoid the mud 100% so don't wear anything you don't want to get even a little mucky. 

Colour

Bluebells represent the beginning of spring so you'll want to reflect that in the colour of your clothes as well.
White, creams, pastel shades and blues go lovely with the tones of the bluebells and the surrounding trees.  

Avoid Logos & Patterns

Nothing dates a photo like a large logo (think kappa tracksuits from the 90s).  Similarly, loud patterns can be very distracting to the eye so stick to block colours and very simple designs. 

Coordinate but don't match

Don't feel like you all have to wear the exact same colours - in fact it's better if you don't.  Try and dress in shades of the same colour or complimenting colours.

Casual Vs Smart

Whether you dress casual or smart is a personal preference that reflects your style as a family.
When you think of your child in the bluebells do you picture a cute little waistcoat and trousers with them sitting on a wooden crate, shorts and t-shirts with them on an adventure in the forest or maybe a dress to spin and twirl in the sunshine?
